The mission of the Advent Student Council is to undertake activities which promote school spirit, and to create and execute projects which serve Advent students and our downtown community. Student Council structure consists of 12 students: 2 class representatives from each upper school grade (5th-8th), along with 4 Executive Council members from 7th and 8th grades. Peers elect Student Council members at the beginning of the school year, and the group meets weekly to discuss needs and plan projects.
While specific goals vary from year to year, I am always impressed with our students’ enthusiasm for enhancing student life and assisting groups in need. They have big dreams, and through this student organization, they learn how to plan and execute large-scale projects. Whether it’s through establishing a snack cart for hungry upper-schoolers, collecting items for underserved communities, assembling holiday candy grams, or planning a school-wide movie night, these Advent Students are learning the ins and outs of what it takes to plan, prepare, organize and execute projects. This organization truly belongs to the students, and it is a pleasure to witness their growth over the course of the school year.
