This month, Advent third graders learned many interesting facts about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Did you know that Dr. King was named Michael when he was born? After a trip to Germany, his father renamed himself and Michael after the great Protestant theologian, Martin Luther. Along with Dr. King, we explored the history of the Civil Rights Movement. We listened to the “I Have a Dream” speech and expanded our vocabulary by reading quotes by Dr. King.

The students composed poems in class. Quotes from the poems include “Martin Luther King had a dream, His eyes had a friendly gleam…” and “Brave, Kind, and Caring was Dr. King, All people let freedom Ring….” How wonderful the poems were!
