Pre-K and Kindergarten students at Advent have started learning musical notation.  They are studying the quarter, half and wholes notes.  Using the European Kodaly system of musical education, these notes are given vocal rhythmic syllables to demonstrate their time values.  A quarter note is “ta“; the half note is “to-oh“; and the whole note is “ta-a-a-a.”  Besides identifying these notes, the children are speaking the values and using rhythm sticks to practice what they have learned.  Stop by the music room on a Tuesday or Thursday morning and you will hear our young students demonstrating their knowledge of musical notation!
